Laser Cutting is not only used in art, paper art, woodwork, but also in fashion. It allows designers to create an intricate textured surface that can be multidimensional. This picture illustrates how laser cutting along with ingenuity and creativity can create something unique and beautiful. The garment was designed and created by RMIT Fashion Graduate, Cathy Yuen. She was inspired by architecture, specifically stained glass windows in a church.
Synthetic materials are more easily cut by lasers. Therefore, polyester and rayon would be great testing fabrics. Etching is also possible. Eventually, I would like to etch brocade or velvet to achieve a burnout effect.
